Advanced Agriculture Technology

Elective

Grade: 11 or 12

A year long course with the prerequisite the student be a junior or senior. The class will explore new technology in agriculture and expand on mechanical theme. This course is a full year, one hour per day course. Students in this course will expand their knowledge in the mechanical field, and be introduced to new topics of study. Drawing, both on paper and computer are covered. Hydraulics and pneumatics are areas covered. GPS technology is discussed and operated. A complex machine is built each year, utilizing skills the students have gained. The fish farm will be operated. This will give each student hands on experience in a new field of production ag.

Ag Metals Technology

Elective

Grade: 11 or 12

Semester course with the prerequisite the student be a junior or senior. The main function of the class is as a model of a small manufacturing shop. This course is a one semester, one hour per day course. This course has the prerequisite of being a high school junior or senior. Students in this course will be introduced to high school agriculture classes and the FFA. All students will gain valuable work experience by conducting a Supervised Agriculture Experience project. Students will work in a manufacturing setting with foremen and work crews. Job responsibilities will be rotated among students. Chester FFA products will be built.

Horticulture

Elective

Grade: 11 or 12

Horticulture is the second semester continuation of the metals class. Junior and Seniors are eligible for this one hour per day course. Students in this course will be introduced to high school agriculture classes and the FFA. All students will gain valuable work experience by conducting a Supervised Agriculture Experience project. Students will gain experience in many parts of the horticulture industry, through work in the school greenhouse and working in the school land lab.

Ag I

Elective

Grade: 9

Ag I is generally a freshman level class. Students in this course will be introduced to general agriculture procedures, tools and learning of the FFA creed and becoming a “Green Hand” which is an FFA pledge.

Ag II

Elective

Grade: 10

Ag II is generally a sophomore level class with no prerequisites. This course is a full year, one hour per day course. This course has no prerequisites other than be a high school student. Students in this course will be introduced to high school agriculture classes and the FFA. All students will gain valuable work experience by conducting a
Supervised Agriculture Experience project. Students will gain knowledge in land classification, speaking and
leadership skills and some home shop skills. Each student will also be exposed to the world of work and their
place in it. International ag will be explored along with topics of interest here at home. Welding will conclude
the course. Elective 10th ADVANCED AGRICULTURE TECHNOLOGY A year long course with the prerequisite the student be a junior or senior. Grade: 11

Ag III is generally a junior level class with no prerequisites. This course is a full year, one hour per day course.
This course has no prerequisites other than be a high school student. Students in this course will be introduced to high school agriculture classes and the FFA. All students will gain valuable work experience by conducting a Supervised Agriculture Experience project. Ag III has a large hands on, mechanical component. Students will gain skills in engine mechanics, machinery management and electricity. The animal science industry will be explored as well as our natural resources. Basic carpentry will be practiced through the building of lawn sheds, and job -seeking skills will be introduced.

Ag IV

Elective

Grade: 12

Ag IV is generally a senior level agriculture class. This course is a full year, one hour per day course. This course has no prerequisites other than be a high school student. Students in this course will be introduced to high school agriculture classes and the FFA. All students will gain valuable work experience by conducting a Supervised Agriculture Experience project. Students will gain knowledge in building site set-up, personal and business financial management. Each student will fill out the State FFA Degree application.. To end the year, a hypothetical farm will be started and run on paper.
